2014 ZVW35 TOYOTA PRIUS G PLUG-IN HYBRID HATCH
This is the plug-in version of the very popular Toyota Prius Hybrid which is sold here in hatchback & wagon form.
This particular Prius is powered by 2ZR-FXE 1.8 Litre 4 cylinder DOHC petrol engine with VVT and 2 high output electric motors which are mated to a 1 speed e-CVT transmission which Toyota calls the 'Hybrid Synergy Drive.'
The Prius Plug-in Hybrid uses the Hybrid Synergy Drive of the standard Prius model, with enhanced capabilities that incorporates a 4.4 kWh lithium-ion battery that significantly expands the all-electric range as compared to the regular Prius, and fully rechargeable from a home power source.
The Prius PHV can drive in pure electric mode at highway speeds or in stop star traffic for longer than the traditional Hybrid Prius. After the electric driving range is exhausted, the plug-in switches into hybrid operation at a set state of battery charge and operates as a conventional full hybrid with a similar efficiency of a standard Prius.
The system uses two high-output electric motors, that mainly work to power the compact, lightweight transaxle, and another smaller motor, that works as the electric power source for battery regeneration and as a starter for the petrol engine.
