The images featured are actual examples of Ruth's design and pattern engineering work.
Her abilities are very versatile and Ruth can work across womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and babies, including work uniforms and corporate/business attire.
Ruth's studio is based in the Byron Bay hinterland. She can work with local clients or via long distance utilising phone, Skype, email and express post (the blue couture gown was one such assignment for a Sydney client).
A selection of labels she has worked for include:
WOMENSWEAR - The White Raven (boho luxe / resortwear), Gemeli Power (celebrity gowns), Johansen (resortwear; outfitter to Kylie Jenner), Sun Protection Australia (outdoor / workwear / activewear); Seabones (beach / resortwear); Engynir (performancewear), Sutra Wear (ethnic chic), AC The Collection (urban chic), By Fleur Designs (sleepwear / robes); zino ama (sustainable, ethical, linen resortwear); fridayhutrd.com.au (hemp resortwear); Linen Shore (classic casual wear); Human Wellness (loungewear)
CHILDRENSWEAR / BABYWEAR - Marshall and Harper (casual, distressed denim look), Nimbi Kids (casual & fun); Neeks and Gaston (merino growsuits), Chettle (baby swimwear)
MENSWEAR - Sun Protection Australia (outdoor / workwear / activewear); Hemp Jeans; HELM (golfwear)
Servicing the fashion industry for over 12 years, Ruth is a freelance designer, pattern engineer and sample machinist (make up first prototype).
Trained by tailors, she can also make customised blocks to your measurements and grade patterns according to your size chart.
For start-up labels, Ruth can assist with determining your all important size chart.
Ruth engineers patterns to perfectly fit your 'fit model'.
Existing patterns can also be re-engineered for a better fit and a higher price point at the checkout.
Ruth fully understands the quality process and works within tolerances of 3 mm or less.
For more images of her activewear work, see also Ruth's performance wear label ‘Engynir’ at www.engynir.com.au. Producing this range involves ongoing off shore negotiation with overseas manufacturers.
Manufacturing Spec Sheets / Tech Packs are a must when you're working at this level. In dealing with off shore manufacturers, Ruth understands that extra care must be taken to prepare Specification Sheets that are super easy to understand ... you're typically dealing with personnel who read / write English as a second language (at best) or no English speaking / reading skills at all.
In addition, Ruth offers a quality assurance service for the fashion industry (advice on processes and procedures), together with consultations in domestic and overseas manufacture and production.
Industry training is a specialty, should this be required.
Whether you're a new label, thinking about becoming a new label or an established fashion house, Ruth can provide invaluable assistance.
First half hour of consultation free.
Contact Ruth via her private email account at des******@******.au or voice/SMS on ******** 364.
The prototyping process that Ruth uses is as follows:
1. determine the design brief, fit model’s measurements and fabric
2. determine the size range for your label (e.g. S, M, L or 8, 10, 12, etc.)
3. draft patterns to the design brief
4. make up a test garment (called a 'toile' in the industry)
5. first fitting on the fit model
6. make any adjustments to the patterns and toile
7. second fitting may be required
8. finalise patterns and prepare on professional pattern paper, card or digitise
9. make sample garments in actual fabric for advanced marketing & sales purposes
10. grade the patterns into the required sizes and generate multiple patterns in multiple sizes
11. prepare manufacturing specifications and garment measurement specs
