9'1" 'WILDE Shapes' Longboard Malibu Mal
Sean Wilde who is now based in Mona Vale on Sydney's northern beaches started Wilde Shapes over twenty five years ago in Huntington Beach, California, USA. He moved from Australia at the age of sixteen, his designs have been dramatically influenced by a decade of shaping in the States and now with a further eighteen years back in Australia his surfboards are a perfect blend of both styles.
Although working on his own designs since day one, Sean has also shaped for some of the most highly regarded shapers in the industry.
One such shaper the late Blake Case whom at the time was at the forefront of modern design and was shaping boards for Tom Curren, Sunny Garcia and Derrick Ho. He passed on his knowledge and his prized planer which Sean still uses to this day.
Then Sean was offered a job at the Robert August factory. It was there that he started shaping and riding surfboards of the longer variety. Working there for four years with a team of surfing legends hand shaping an assortment of models, you might say his apprenticeship was well and truly complete.
When he was offered a chance to move back home to Australia with the Robert August label and his first child on the way he jumped at it. Having a well known label like that under his belt was great for getting his foot in the door of the Australian surfboard industry. It wasn’t long before he was shaping boards for not only the Robert August label, but also Bennett, Keyo as well as continuing his own label – Wilde Shapes.
This all led to the ultimate decision of letting all other labels go in order to pursue his dream of making his own label – Wilde Shapes –located at Mona Vale on Sydney’s northern beaches, Sean has become a force in the surfboard industry.
About the board:
Sean's extensive experience has culminated in a fine range of boards including this very attractive custom made performance 9'1" Malibu with design features from the classic models of the 60's together with today's modern concepts and technology. Dimensions of this Malibu are 9'1" x 22 3/8" x 2 3/4" so it’s GOOD TO PADDLE AND GREAT TO RIDE. Pulled-in nose with nice lift for those late take-offs good rocker for speed, 'down' rails for trim and manoeuvrability, IT’S EASY TO CATCH WAVES WITH. Being a performance longboard it’s ideal for small to medium sized waves but can handle larger surf too. This malibu is suitable for a wide range of surfers, it has a top quality 7 1'2" ALOHA fibre glass fin together with side bite fins for good control and drive out of turns. A top quality colour matched tail pad is included but should you prefer this may be removed. A leg rope and 2x blocks of wax are available for an extra $20. The board is in VERY GOOD used CONDITION, there have been some small professional repairs, there are some heel dents from use but nothing needs to be done other than to wax up and hit the surf. This board is very good value, at less than half new custom price.....
I'm selling this and other boards incl. McTavish, Jackson, Robert August, Noosa Longboards, Wayne Deane, Kenno plus more. Lengths vary from 9’0” to 10’ plus, I've just got too many boards, so some have to go.
