This quaint money box, in the form of a double-gabled house with clay ‘moss’ on the roof and beside the entrance stairs, is a piece of English Staffordshire pottery. Like the more-commonly-known pairs of antique ‘mantelpiece’ dogs, it is formed from press-moulded porcelain. The design has the drawback that the only way to retrieve money is through the slot in the rear of the roof. Antique 19th Century Cedar Writing Box Colonial writing box made of cedar with huon pine trim, 55 x 39 x 20cm, with metal handles and brass plaque "CHS", fitted with writing board, three small drawers and several compartments. Handsome piece but with a few dings, dents and a crack, wear consistent with age. As is. COD Hughes.
