Unusual No.1 Cherry & Sons Kauri Pine Butter Churn Early 1900s
Edward Cherry (1830 - 1910) arrived in Australia from England in 1855 and began manufacturing butter churns in 1858. In 1875 he opened a factory in Gisborne, Victoria which traded as E. Cherry between 1889 and 1899. The churns were made of seasoned New Zealand kauri pine, steamed to the curved shape. By 1904 they were known as E. Cherry & Sons.
