Rare Antique c1770 Royal Worcester Dr Wall Sparrow Beak Jug
In 1751 Dr Wall and his associate created a boil-proof formula for soft-paste porcelain. This discovery led to the formation of the Worcester factory, and still to this day the name Worcester is synonymous with quality and longevity in the porcelain industry. The period between 1751 - 1776 is often referred to as the Dr. Wall period by collectors and enthusiasts.
This beautiful jug is in the typical baluster shape, with a loop handle and a triangular beak known as a sparrow beak. Featured on this exterior is the "three flowers" pattern, which is transfer printed on both sides with a butterfly under the beak and hand painted concentric blue lines under the rim. Underneath you will find the early Worcester blue crescent mark. Standing 11cm tall, this jug is in superb condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. For a 250 year old piece of fragile soft-paste porcelain to still be in this fine condition is scarce. It's a smaller sized jug so the original purpose was probably for milk or cream.
PLEASE NOTE: I am absolutely firm on the price. It's the cheapest you will find anywhere and in pristine condition. Don't bother messaging me with offers as I'm sure we both prefer our time not to be wasted. Thank you.
Pickup is from Geelong, VIC or I am happy to post Australia wide for $10.
