Antique Barber Chair
This antique Malwa Barber’s Chair is in excellent condition considering its age and was recovered from the former site of WD & HO Wills, Sydney Australia. It would have been imported in 1927 by WD & HO Wills from America. The tobacco company imported these chairs and this was the one that was retained by the business. The original WD & HO Wills name plate still remains on the chair(please see image).
As the story goes, the chair was a display piece and previously used to cut the hair of the CEO of the time. The chair has been stored for many years in a darkened room and so has been protected from damage by light. It is still in its original excellent condition, the upholstery having been redone. The arms have been reinforced with four steel rods (please see image). The remainder of the chair is all in its original intact and good condition.
Uniquely, this chair still has its original head rest and booster plank/seat. These are not commonly remaining with a chair of this age and the two definitely add to completing this standout piece.
The chair DOES rotate, and DOES recline, but it is NOT hydraulic (ie. does not raise and lower).
The successful bidder will have to arrange for pick-up (postage / freight NOT being offered). The chair dimensions are approximately 1200mm (height) x 600mm (width) x 1100mm (length, in upright position with footrest). The Chair DOES dismantle, into a "base" and a "chair". The approximate weight of the base is 60kg, and of the chair is 15kg.
