Sterling Silver Inkwell London 1896
It is heavily built. The body is precision cast & not flimsy sheet formed as most are. Total weight is 420 grams.
The condition is original & pristine with no damage, repair or modification.
The body, lid & the base are all hallmarked London 1896 & struck with the makers stamp "J.G&S" (John Grinsell & Sons) & the numbers 15947 & 2.
John Grinsell & Sons were a firm of manufacturing silversmiths who were well renowned for high quality inkwells, desksets & stationery accessories.
The sterling silver inkwell body, hinged lid, fastened base plate, cut glass fitted well & blown glass liner are all in pristine, original condition.
The base plate is removable by four screws to reveal the cut glass well - which is removable for cleaning. The blown glass insert liner is intact & is removable from the top.
It is oval in shape. Dimensions are 4 1/4" x 3 1/2". The height is 2 1/2".
This inkwell set set is of the highest quality & would suit the most discerning collector.
