Richard Flanagan - The Narrow Road to the Deep North [1st Ed HB]
The blurb:- August, 1943. In the despair of a Japanese POW camp on the Thai-Burma death railway, Australian surgeon Dorrigo Evans is haunted by his love affair with his uncle's young wife two years earlier. Struggling to save the men under his command from starvation, from cholera, from beatings, he receives a letter that will change his life forever.
This savagely beautiful novel is a story about the many forms of love and death, of war and truth, as one man comes of age, prospers, only to discover all that he has lost.
The book is in very good condition with pages clean and tightly bound. Some signs of use/storage to the exterior as per photos 1 & 2 include some creasing to the top edge of the dust cover where it has slipped over the hardcover a little, a small nick to the dust cover at the lower edge of the spine [visible in photo 1], and the original price sticker remains affixed to the back. Also the back of the hardcover itself has a small raised lump.
268 pages. Published by Knopf in 2013 [1st/1st as above]. ISBN 978-0-85798-148-6. [Approx 21.5 x 15 x 4.5cms & 660g]
