Complete Book of Australian Mammals - Australian Museum [Hardback]
The blurb:- This historic publication has been compiled by The Australian Museum from its National Photographic Index of Australian Wildlife. The result of many years' intensive research, it is a magnificent, full-colour photographic record of Australia's mammals, with authoritative, readable text edited by Ronald Strahan. The book surveys the rich and varied world of Australia's mammals from the well known platypus, koala and kangaroo species to the little known pygmy possums, bats and carnivorous marsupials, the seals and sea lions, and even the introduced mammals such as rabbits, camels and deer.
Uniquely, the text is written by over a hundred authors, all acknowledged experts who have worked in the field with the species they describe. Ronald Strahan has deftly shaped these accounts into a cohesive whole without ever losing the freshness of first hand reports of encounters with animals.
'The Complete Book of Australian Mammals' will find a place not only on the shelves of libraries and institutions, but also in the homes of thousands of Australian families who wish to possess this priceless record of their country's wildlife heritage, a heritage threatened increasingly as development encroaches on natural habitats, and introduced predators take their toll. Many of the enchanting creatures described and pictured here are shy and rare, and will be unfamiliar to the general reader. Many are threatened with extinction, so that the superb photographs reproduced in this book may be the only means by which future generations can appreciate their beauty and uniqueness.

This wonderful, large hardback is in very good condition with pages clean and tightly bound. There are some not very obvious light marks to the edges of the closed pages, and a couple of very small marks to the last [blank] page. Some signs of use/storage to the dust cover as per photos 1 & 10 with a little wear around the top and bottom near the spine and a small 4mm tear to the bottom of the back. There's also some rubbing to the top and bottom edges of the hardcover from going in and out the bookcase. I've listed every fault I can find so it all sounds like a lot, but it still remains a good copy of this fantastic volume.
Also have some other books on the natural world and native animals listed separately at present.
