WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR: TOYOTA AURION (2012 TO 2017)

Like the majority of Toyotas of the last 40 years, the Aurion has an enviable reputation for going the distance without fuss.

But there is one important need and that is that the V6 engine has had regular oil and filter changes.

An Aurion V6 that is neglected in this area will build up sludge and soot internally and, because of the design of the oiling system, this gunk can block the oil pick-up and starve the whole engine of the lubrication it needs. If that happens, it's goodbye for the engine in seconds.

This is not a design problem, but rather one of owners not paying attention to the service schedule.

It could also be that the Aurion's otherwise impeccable toughness lulls people into a false sense of security when it comes to routine maintenance.

Either way, you need to check the service record carefully and be wary of a car without all its stamps up to date.
