  • Common FAQs
  • The Mercedes-Benz ML class offers various engine options with differing power outputs. For example, the 2.1 L four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine in the ML250 variant offers 150 kW of power, and the ML360 AMG V8 engine produces 386 kW.
  • The most fuel-efficient Mercedes-Benz ML engine is the 2.1 L, four-cylinder turbo-diesel, which consumes 6.4 L /100 km. At the other end of the economy range is the 4.7 L V8 turbo engine, which requires 11.5 to 12.3 L /100 km.
  • In a 2019 Australian consumer survey, Mercedes-Benz ranked a respectable sixth for new-car reliability, scoring four out of five stars. Mercedes-Benz has a good general reputation for building solid, reliable cars.
  • One theory suggests that originally Mercedes-Benz 'A' classed vehicles were small, 'S' classed vehicles were large and everything else was in between. Although there's no confirmation of what the 'ML' means in Mercedes-Benz ML, the ML badge represents the brand's large SUV range.
  • The Mercedes-Benz ML was last sold new in 2015 and after that, it was badged as a GLE. A 2015 Mercedes-Benz ML currently sells for between $44,000 and $130,000.

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR: MERCEDES-BENZ ML (2012 TO 2015)

Diesel engine in the BlueTec version of the ML may suffer from a stretched timing chain as the vehicle covers higher mileages.

So, check any high-miler carefully as the timing chain is at the back of the engine, making replacement fiddly, time consuming and, therefore, costly.

The timing-chain tensioner on diesel models could also create an oil leak where it entered the engine. An O-ring was blamed for this. Diesel MLs with a 2014 build-date were the affected cars.

This model was also caught up in the Takata airbag recall, so check with a Mercedes dealer to confirm a particular car's status.

Despite the prestige Euro badge, these vehicles were actually built in the US and quality wasn't always uniform. So check that all the electrical gear works properly.
