This car is a driver's dream. This has been confirmed within the last few weeks with an hour of country driving. It still drives like new. Unfortunately, while I personally bought this car brand new from the dealer, ensuring it has the full service history, and with only the expected wear of 5-6 years of driving 140K kms, last year it hit the outer guard rail on the M1 freeway. This markedly damaged the passenger doors, and completely destroyed the rear bumper and damage between them.

Every 15,000km or 12months, whichever is sooner. Each service currently costs from about $425. Volkswagen Polo parts and accessoriescan be found on Gumtree.
Polos with the seven-speed DSG transmission have proven to be potentially problematic as a relatively high number of transmission faults and failures have shown up in-service.
Make sure any DSG Polo shifts smoothly and cleanly, doesn't show a strange shift pattern and doesn't shudder on take off. If it does, the gearbox could be showing signs of wear.
Both the 1.2- and 1.4-litre petrol engines can suffer stretched timing chains and these need to be replaced. The 1.4 was also fitted with a suspect batch of pistons so a compression test is a good pre-purchase idea.
The Polo with the diesel engine was also caught up in VW's Dieselgate scandal and VW dealers are still recalling these to be fitted with new software.
Check with a dealer to discover if a particular car has been fixed yet or not.
