HYUNDAI GETZ Used Car Review

In 2002, the Getz took over the mantle of the Hyundai's Excel as one of Australia's cheapest cars in three-door, 1.3L form. The Getz brought cuter styling and better build quality, however, and in contrast to the Excel it helped to improve Hyundai's reputation in Australia. It lived on for nearly a decade - during which it was immensely popular with rental car companies - before it was gradually replaced by the i20.

Pros

Cons

  • Sharply priced when new
  • 1.6-litre model featured good safety for price/segment
  • 1.4L and 1.6L better performers than earlier engines
  • Better build quality than old Excel
  • 1.4L model missed out on anti-lock brakes and rear disc brakes
  • Many lived long lives as rental cars
  • 4-speed automatic didn't get with engines as well as 5-speed manual
  • Average handling
