Kermits Swamp Years is a 2002 American direct-to-video comedy film directed by David Gumpel. It is the second direct-to-video feature film in The Muppets franchise. The film follows a young Kermit the Frog and his best friends, Goggles and Croaker, who travel outside their homes in the swamps of the Deep South to go on an adventure. The film features an ensemble cast headlined by John Hostetter as Dr. Krassman (the movie's main antagonist), with William Bookston and Kelly Collins Lintz in supporting roles, Steve Whitmire, Bill Barretta, Joseph Mazzarino, John Kennedy, and Alice Dinnean providing the Muppets, and featuring the voice of Cree Summer.
The film was released on VHS, DVD and on the Starz network on August 18, 2002. Although the film’s distribution rights are still owned by Sony Pictures rather than The Walt Disney Company, Kermit's Swamp Years was filmed at the Disney-MGM Studios, which is now known as Disney's Hollywood Studios, and in Naples, Florida. It received generally negative reviews, with criticism for its story, writing, humor, and acting, but praise for its puppetry.
The Muppet’s Take Manhattan is a 1984 American musical comedy-drama film directed by Frank Oz and the third theatrical film featuring the Muppets. The film stars Muppet performers Jim Henson, Oz, Dave Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Richard Hunt, Jerry Nelson, as well as special appearances by Art Carney, James Coco, Dabney Coleman, Gregory Hines, Linda Lavin and Joan Rivers. Filmed in New York City during the prior summer, it was released theatrically on July 13, 1984, by TriStar Pictures. A fantasy sequence in the film introduced the Muppet Babies, toddler versions of the lead Muppet characters.
Muppets Take Manhattan was the first film to be directed solely by Oz, who previously co-directed The Dark Crystal with Henson. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics with praise for its puppetry, humor, songs and characters but criticism for some of its writing. The film was also a box office success grossing $25.5 million on a budget of $8 million.
