Rare vintage machine cast iron flywheel C1880
$650
Rare piece,rare price.
I am floating this very rare and unique item not just for those who might like it,but for someone who can afford it.
It is the flywheel from a John Danks and Son Ltd hand driven 'Monitor' water pump.
It would best suit perhaps a Victorian homestead style garden as garden decore on a property from the late 1800's era when the property would have been likely to have actually purchased and owned such a unit.
The pump was designed for lifting water from a well or creek using man power, similar to some chaff cutters and other hand powered machines on offer in the day.
I have found the parent machine to my flywheel advertised as early as 1884,being offered for use powered by man, steam engine or horseworks.
It is truly a stunning piece to view in person and I cannot see my pictures doing it much justice as far as spatial appearance/dimension is concerned.
The diameter is 3'8" and the outer rim embossed with the makers name measures around 3" x 2".
It is a good deal heavier than say a Buncle hand driven chaff cutter wheel and viewing first hand it is immediately seen as much larger in height and profile, much more robust and weighty in appearance.
I am the smaller version by necessity of an antique windmill collector and I find it hard to describe my happiness and surprise when I first uncovered the embossed lettering on this wheel.
John Danks and son has a long history here with the manufacture of plumbing and water supply components and was manufacturing windmills from Alston and other makers under licence in the late 1800s,before creating their own nationally famous and iconic 'Billabong' windmill design. The Danks Billabong brand name is most certainly held in very high regard as the "Furphy" of the vintage windmill and water supply world.
As mentioned in my opening comment, this rare and ornate locally manufactured item of interest is for sale to someone who really wants it.My appeal is pitched to the prospective buyer who has a sober view for values.
I understand that a click on my gumtree name will open a list of my other odds and ends for sale.
Phone calls are best this end ,thanks.
Thank you for viewing.

- Windmill wheel Windmill fan 6 foot Southern CrossThis 6 foot windmill wheel was part of the latest recovery project. I was able to purchase a complete wrecked windmill for parts and the wheel we see here was mostly buried and overgrown with pasture. I love these little six foot versions with their smart slender appearance and plenty of sails. This model is known out on the job as being quite lively with very little wind about. As i say, quite a personal favourite that i have watched turning many times while wondering how, while there seems to b$650Allansford, VIC•2w
