Antique/Vintage 20th Cent Chinese hand-chased brass plate with dragons
$95
SHIPPING OFFERED
Offered for sale is this antique/vintage early-20th Century Chinese cast-brass and hand-chased plate, most likely dating from the 1900’s to 1930’s.
Cast from heavy brass, the unusual form mimics a classical Chinese pottery serving tray (normally most examples of this type are simply dished or flat). Encircling calligraphy symbols that infer good luck/health/fortune, two dragons are depicted chasing flaming pearls of wisdom amongst Buddhistic clouds. Framing them is an archaic Chinese rectangular border (often found on furniture pieces), with the uppermost internal gallery having stylised foliage (possibly bamboo, meaning harmony and virtue) and architectural scrolls at each quarter.
A great gift for anyone born this year – the Year of the Dragon!
In excellent original condition. Over time the brass has taken a deep, warm patination that reflects this being a proper antique/vintage piece and not modern reproduction. The base has appropriate wear from this being moved over various surfaces for many years.
Measures 14.7cm (diameter) x 3.5cm (d) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. Accurate as possible description at time of listing, however like any secondhand item is sold without guarantee or return so please ask any questions before purchase - as any sale is final.

The wooden elements of the box appear to have previously been painted, and the handles on the box and lid were added by a prior owner. It’s a charming box but would benefit from love and care.
