Offered for sale is this antique/vintage 20th Century (former) Czechoslovakian Art Deco ‘Alienware’ glazed vase, designed by the famous Ditmar Urbach and dating from the 1920’s to 1930’s. During this time it become famous for producing high-quality Art Nouveau and Jugendstil art pottery before Ditmar developed the iconic ‘Alienware’ range. Marked on the base with a ‘T’ imprint and you can (faintly) see the ‘Made in Czechoslovakia’ backstamp.
Applied on a three-handled hexagon vase form, rising from a rounded base (sometimes called ‘The Rocket’) the overall glaze is a creamy tone with soft orange/rust crackle. On the base there are three diamond lozenges finished in a deep green with gold bordering. A repeat of these lozenges (in ovoid shape) are on each of the hexagonal risers.
A lovely original example of Art Deco art pottery from this important 20th Century designer.
In very good overall condition, no cracks or chips. There is some soft craquelure and light patination that confirms this as being a correct vintage piece and not modern reproduction.
Measures 26cm (h) x 8.5cm (diameter, at widest) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. Accurate as possible description at time of listing, however like any secondhand item is sold without guarantee or return so please ask any questions before purchase - as any sale is final.
