Vintage 20th Cent. Czechoslavakian Illusion vase style of Milos Filip
$75
SHIPPING OFFERED
Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Czechoslovakian moulded glass vase, in the style of designer Miloš Filip and most likely made by the Heřmanova Glassworks (or ‘Hut’) during the 1950’s. Born in 1926, Miloš was part of the generation of post-WW2 Eastern Block designers who often worked with geometric shapes, forms and lines that would come to be considered part of Mid-Century Modern’s ‘Brutalist’ style. His natural talents were quickly recognised and in 1955 was appointed as a designer to the Institute for Interior Culture (UBOK), with these early works made by the renowned Inwald Glassworks. Considered a great innovator, he reversed the common form of vases at the time - keeping a smooth interior and utilising an outwardly textured exterior. Sadly he passed away at the age of 40 (in 1966). Miloš’ skill has now appreciated and been recognised, with his still-contemporary-today pieces today now highly collectable.
The eye-catching design features a three-part moulded, oversize-beaker vase form with a series of repeated abstract and elongated ovoid-and-star lozenges. This appears heavily-inspired by Miloš’ ‘optical illusion’ vases (especially design no. 19866), which utilise a simple rounded-square shape. This example is also slightly rarer, being in a pale blue/purple glass (most contemporary examples are clear, rose or solid blue).
A stunning decorator’s piece for any home or business.
In excellent overall original condition, no chips or cracking. There is one extremely small abrasion, hard to notice (or photograph) but noted for a full item description. The base shows appropriate wear (being moved over surfaces for many years) as expected from a vintage item and not modern reproduction.
Measures 20.5cm (h) x 13cm (diameter, at widest) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. Accurate as possible description at time of listing, however like any secondhand item is sold without guarantee or return so please ask any questions before purchase - as any sale is final.
