About Me
I started of 25 years ago owning 2 of these beautiful parrots and have been breeding and handrearing these unique parrots now for over 20 years and love what I do.
The handraising process
All our babies are pulled from the nest at around day 20 to start the handrearing process.
They are all placed into digital brooders at controlled temperatures to maintain there growth. This is to make sure that thre body temperature is correct so they grow at the right rate and also to digest there food properly. They are handreared on Tropican handrearing mix and all our babies are spoon fed. We do not crop feed.
The weaning process
I believe that the first 12 weeks is the most important part of any parrots life not only feeding them but also nurturing and handling them so they are part of the family.
At around 6 weeks they come out of the brooder in the day time and go into a training cage where they can observe activity around them. And then back into the brooders at night for sleep. They are still on 4 spoon feeds a day.
Once they start venturing out of there plastic containers there is a perch put in down low and we start to step up and introduce some fresh veg, fruit and pellet. Thats usually around 8weeks.
Ready for there forever home
Around 9/10 weeks they are stepping up eating fruit, veg and pellet and down to 2 spoon feeds a day with a top up at bedtime so now you become mum and finish of those comfort spoons and this also becomes a bonding process with your new family member.
Please Note:
We do not sell unweaned babies from the nest they must be stepping up and eating on there own before they can go and you can finish of the spoon feeding which we can supply you with some hand rearing mix. That age is usually around 9 weeks.
