$15
SELLING 3 BOOKS RELATING TO AUSTRALIAN WOMEN ARMY NURSES WHO SERVED IN VARIOUS WARS:-
(1) H/Cover, Dust/Jacket reprint of a first published March 1954 (this edition June 1954) book titled "WHITE COOLIES" by Betty Jeffrey. It is the account of experiences of an Australian Army Nursing Sister (Malaya - Singapore) in the hands of the Japanese POW. It describes the 'attempts to force Australian Nurses to 'entertain' Japanese officers, the hunger, sickness, and almost incredible over-crowding of the prison camps'.
The dust jacket is torn as can be seen. H/Cover in good condition for age. A strange thing about the book is that the inside "map" is upside down and does not look like it was replaced or re-glued in that position. May have been done during publication?
(2) Paperback book 2004 titled:- "TEARS ON MY PILLOW - AUSTRALIAN NURSES IN VIETNAM" by Narelle Biedermann. 250 pages with a large amount of B/W photographs and illustrations surrounded by the text / stories. "A total of 43 Australian Army Nursing sisters were sent to Vietnam between 1967 and 1971 undertaking tours of up to 12 months. They were assigned to a military hospital in a war zone with no advance preparation of what they would encounter." VGC.
