EUROPEAN Night Crawlers (As Breeding Stock)
$55 per 50 worms
Sizes / What To Expect
These worms are sold as breeders to start a composting system.
They will have a clitellum/saddle/bulge, which indicates a breeding adult.
They are not of any certain length (like bait worms are a certain length) – although adult Euro breeders are often about 5cm long.
Why are Euros more expensive than Africans?
They take about 3 times as much work as Africans to raise for bait.
Having decided to reduce the stocks I breed of this species, but having customers requiring access to the species for breeding stock, the Euros are now priced as specialized breeding stock.
You can buy them for bait, but they may be smaller than bait-sized worms.
Customers wishing to buy these worms to set up a composting worm farm with, please note that bait worms are harder to raise in many ways than normal composting worms. It is not a simple, one step process. Essentially, I do not teach how to raise fishing bait.
Some worm farm types or climatic conditions may not suit raising these worms.
I can give you this tip: they are composting worms and a great place to start is the composting worm instruction sheets and guides on my website (instructions supplied with all purchases.)

What Is The Difference Between Africans And European Night Crawlers?
Apart from Euros being harder to raise, they are sized differently.
Some fishermen just seem to prefer one over the other.
* Europeans are thicker all along their length. They are a harder, more muscled worm. Very active, good for using whole for bigger fish, they move around a lot and may stay on the hook a little better.
Euros are twice as much work to breed, so they are a little more expensive. This is an introductory price and subject to change.
* Africans are longer, but thin out towards the tail. They are a softer bodied worm. Fishermen like cutting these up as they are generally too long for a small hook. They have an iridescent “blue” sheen running through them which some fishermen say attract the fish. Great for feeding to pets as they are a little softer than Euros.
Why dont fish and pets like normal composting worms?
One of the species of worms most often found in "composting worms" is E. fetida. The fetida name comes from the word fetid; meaning foul aroma. The EF's will exude a garlicky substance when upset; it is this that deters fish and pets from eating them.
Raising worms to sell as fishing bait is a sustainable, green, environmentally friendly business.
In Australia, worms that are wild caught are needed where they are found - helping our environment, reducing erosion and increasing organic matter. Garden worms have such a long life cycle, taking up to 5 to 7 years to reach breeding age - removing the adults for fishing quickly removes them from an area.
A valuable by product of raising bait worms to sell, is the worm castings - a rich organic matter which holds a host of great properties. Using the castings not only benefits plants but also helps the soil food web - microbes, micro and macro arthropods ,which make for a healthy soil.
