Vintage 1930s Clarice Cliff Pink Water Lily Vase / Lotus Bowl

A very collectable vintage Art Deco Clarice Cliff, Royal Staffordshire 1930s Water Lily bowl hand painted in pinks, blues, yellows and greens. It has a large opening to serve as a bowl or planter. This is the beautiful pink version which has deeper pink at the base of the petals, with the colour graduating to a lighter shade at the top. There are stronger colours around the base for the foliage, flower buds and blue water. Large and striking.
At the age of 17 Clarice Cliff was working for the Royal Staffordshire Pottery owned by AJ Wilkinson. During the mid 1920s she began designing for Wilkinsons and was given her own studio, becoming an accredited pattern designer. Cliff then had the honour of being able to add her name to many of her pieces, most unusual for male or female designers of the time. By 1931, Clarice Cliff, the only female art director in the Potteries, was lauded in the press as the modern entrepreneur and career woman.
Stamped: Royal Staffordshire Ceramics by Clarice Cliff MADE IN ENGLAND with the shape number 973 embossed on base. In very good to excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs and only light crazing on base. (See photos). Dimensions: approx 22cm long x 17.5cm wide x 12cm tall.

Cherry Improved Patent size 0 butter churn, an accompanying exquisite rabbit butter stamp plus a pair of butter pats or paddles. Edward Cherry (1830 - 1910) arrived in Australia from England in 1855 and began manufacturing butter churns in 1858. In 1875 he opened a factory in Gisborne, Victoria which traded as E.
