CONDITION: Fine. It has been stored throughout th owner's life. Perfect field of navy blue. There is a 2mm almost imperceptible insect hole on the gold trim and a small dye smudge through both sides of trim. Heavy weight in fine condition. Most new blankets are in polyester.
Price is in AU and below US priced online offerings.
But the story is the special feature:
This 1952-53 U of Michigan stadium throw is owned by a U of M graduate who was part of America's aviation history. The last use of the blanket was on a trip to the US Flight Test Center, where the first man to fly faster than sound, Colonel Charles 'Chuck' Yeager, was impressed with the blanket owner's knowledge gained at the University of Michigan. Owner was invited to join Colonel Yeager's flight test team where owner participated in the development of the first US supersonic military warplanes. He continued on becoming one of US aviation and space pioneers and is still independently working today. in his 90s.
The owner went on to design the concept of launching anti-ballistic missiles from a marine vessel, now used the world over. It passed its test on the yacht of Donald Douglas, Sr.
