SHIPPING OFFERED
Lovely and rare original hand-coloured stencilled 'Bonne Chasse!' or 'Happy Hunting!' pochoir lithograph from the August 1913 edition of the legendary French fashion magazine 'La Gazette du Bon Ton'. It is printed on a page of thick high quality Verges paper and is signed Pierre Brissaud 1913 in the image. The page measures approximately 25 cm x 19 cm and the image is approximately 16.5 cm x 13.5 cm. This is an early work by Brissaud (1885 - 1964) who was a leading figure in French Art Deco and created beautiful covers for Vogue and similar magazines in the 1920s and 1930s.
The image is of an elegantly dressed young mother and her 2 small children waving goodbye at their garden gate, probably to the father going off to work. She is wearing a russet coloured 'petit tailleur' or little suit by the influential couturier Louise Chéruit (1866 - 1955) who pre-dated Coco Chanel in designing unfussy and easy to wear women's clothes.
La Gazette du Bon Ton was published by Lucien Vogel in Paris between 1912 and 1925 with a break during the First World War. Each luxurious limited edition issue included several fashion plates that were individually hand coloured using stencils in what was known as the 'pochoir' process. The images were designed by the leading illustrators of the day and they are now highly collectable.
This is a delightful Art Deco picture in excellent vintage condition that will frame up beautifully. Please examine all the photos carefully and contact me if you have any questions. Pick up from Kensington NSW 2033 in Sydney Eastern Suburbs.
