Illustrators wanted for picture book projects in 2024
This is not like a shift at McDonald’s but a longer creative process to becoming published.
It has also been an ON-GOING opportunity since 2020 with 17 books sent to publishers.
I am an established children's author requiring illustrators for new picture book projects in 2024. Google me, KYM LARDNER, to learn more about me.
No experience required.
Learn from my 40 years in the industry. A unique quirky style may be just what the public will respond to next. This might be your work.

Share an $8,000 advance on royalties for books accepted by my publisher. Usually 50% each but I have been known to give the entire advance to my illustrators. Half on signature of contract. Half on satisfactory completion of final art. Then receive continued royalties for so long as the book sells. If the book goes out of print and sales end, you still receive the Federal Government PLR and ELR for as long the book remains in public libraries and schools. Contact me NOW. Let's have a first meeting and start the first picture book. What are you waiting for?
The following details are for the very keen or curious.

This opportunity is not a job but a longer creative process and money will only be paid to you if my publisher accepts the book idea we create together for publication. This only need be quick rough sketches (see the photos of this progression), a layout, a dummy mock up and can be done very quickly in one day together but you don't ever start finished art till they offer a signed contract and a substantial advance on royalties is paid immediately. The publisher is buying you time to start illustrating so you don't need the regular work you do for income. This advance will be taken out of the first royalty payment and every royalty till a break even point after which real earnings are paid at 10% of the RRP (recommended retail price) which is shared between us in a way we have agreed, most commonly half each but I have heard of illustrators getting most of the royalty if the book is very elaborately illustrated and the text is just a few words as picture books tend to be. This is also not AMAZON, this is real old fashioned publishing and not self publishing. My publisher is ABC Books/HarperCollins. They pay me not the other way around as in self publishing where you end up with a spare room full of unsold copies of your own book without any real prospects of distribution and thousands of dollars out of pocket. Book sellers don't like dealing with individual authors and illustrators. Publishers deliver boxes of books to shops monthly, on a sale or return basis and give book sellers credit till they sell something. Beat that? No one, in the children's book industry, offers my level of mentoring or opportunity for exposure but I find it a more productive, happier and more balanced way to create than working in isolation.
