AN ENGLISH 8 DAY LONGCASE / GRANDFATHER CLOCK c. 1840
A slightly smaller oak with mahogany crossbanding clock made by Edwin Clark of Weymouth [Dorset] who was active from 1830 to 1853.
The dial is of silvered brass with engraved floral themed corners and marked Tempus Fugit in the arch [Tempus Fugit is NOT a brand, it is Latin for “Time Flies”, the term has been used for centuries].
The movement is in good working order with a seconds dial and strikes on the hour. Has original winder.
Overall, a nice clock enhanced by the unusual silvered dial
.

I restore longcase clocks as a retirement hobby to prevent my body and brain from rusting. Hence why the lower pricing.
I was an antique dealer from the 1970s to the early 1990s and have a comprehensive knowledge of antique furniture, with a focus on longcase [grandfather] clocks.
