William IV Gentlemans Press Original Condition

It is a fine example that was made in London Circa 1840.
Dimensions are strictly traditional & representative of the era at 84" in height, 48" in width & 24" in depth.
It is presented in original, well preserved, unmodified condition.
The structure is sound with no movement, rot, evidence of borer, damage repair or modification. The poplar backboards remain undisturbed. They are quattro panelled & chamfer fitted in traditional Georgian form.
The finish is original, showing excellent colour & patina, & it gleams. It has not been stripped, repolished or interfered with in any way.
All brass & iron locks are made by Samson Mordan & show a production date circa 1830. They are original & operate without flaw. The matching brass cylinder escutcheons are all original. Two keys are included.
The gothic influenced turned handles are original & show a good colour. A second & later set of handles, circa 1850, are included.
The cockbeaded drawers show no damage or repair & slide effortlessly. The original Georgian Blue paper liners are intact.
The turned feet are original, have no damage & have no movement.
The upper doors enclose the press which is fitted with five ogee detailed, linen slides. The timbers to the rear of some of these drawer slides have been replaced & they present suitably. All five slide with ease.
The upper & lower sections separate for transportation. The pediment separates as well if required. All hand formed, parallel threaded, iron screws are present.
A purchase receipt of 1986 (describing it as Regency) is included.
This is an imposing Press that is made in a quality cabinetmaking workshop during a time of "pride of workmanship" & "precision manufacture". It is rare to find such an example in such original, uncorrupted condition. It produces a profound period atmosphere to any room in which it is placed.
