Boyne
These red raspberry seeds are offered to you for $4 per 10 seeds.Add $4 pack/post to the order
Introduced in 1960, Boyne is the summer-producing red raspberry that grows early season in extreme arctic climates. When it ripens in mid-July, it is medium-sized and full of flavor.
Whether you eat them fresh, store them in containers, freeze them, or serve them as desserts, they’re an excellent choice with a sweet and aromatic flavor. Boyne raspberry plants are extremely winter hardy and normally produce medium-sized, deep-red berries.
Unlike other raspberry varieties that are subject to winter injury damage, Boyne doesn’t require trellising to support the canes to ensure abundant fruit production. Boyne is grown in zones 3-6 and its plants are characterized by dwarf canes, simplifying the picking process.
Grow Your Own Fresh Fruit!
The Raspberry, Rubus ‘Boyne’ is THE summer producing red raspberry for extreme arctic climates! Released in 1960, ‘Boyne’ is an early-season variety that is extremely winter hardy. Fruits are medium size and tremendously flavorful when they open in the middle of July. ‘Boyne’, is an attractive berry with a deliciously sweet, aromatic flavor, making it an excellent choice for fresh eating, canning, freezing, and desserts. Sturdy uprights canes will not need trellising to support the abundant fruit production. It consistently produces deep-red, medium-sized berries. It will grow where other varieties experience winter injury damage to the canes. Grows successfully in Zones 3-6. Fruit are borne on dwarf canes that are easy to pick. ‘Boyne’ is an excellent plant maker and may bear a week or ten days before ‘Latham’. Heavy cropper.
Plant as soon as soil may be worked in the spring. Your plants require 1″ of water per week during the growing season and regular, shallow cultivation. The bush will bear only on one-year-old stems. As soon as canes have produced fruit, prune them back to the ground to make room for the strong new canes. Additional pruning will be required to eliminate tangling and improve their ability to bear.
Bright red and prolific, Boyne raspberries were developed in Canada to withstand cold temperatures. Enjoy these sweet berries in muffins, smoothies, pies, and preserves, or on top of oatmeal. Boyne raspberry plants provide a heavy yield—fortunately they freeze beautifully and retain their flavor. Plants grow to 3 to 4 feet with a 2- to 3-foot spread.
Characteristics:
Heart-shaped, bright-red fruit
Sweet flavor, summer-bearing
Hardy and disease resistant
Small white flowers
Perfect for northern gardens
Great for baking, snacking, and adding to breakfast foods
