Amazing to think this was created when the Australian Gold Rush was at its height! Created as a student exercise, Joseph has skilfully rendered a charming depiction of a large conch shell and book. The tones in the work are perfectly matched by the stressed-look frame. - RARE antique 19th Century French print Warrane/Sydney Harbour 1820'sOffered for sale is this rare antique 19th Century French original hand-coloured etching of Warrane (Sydney) Harbour, dating from the mid-1820’s. The artist was Pierre Eugene Aubert (1789 to 1847), with the plate engraved and published by Gilquin Dupain (19 Rue de la Calandre, Paris). An early view of the fledgling settlement, with the newly-finished Saint James’ church prominent. This most likely means Aubert created the image looking south-west from Cremorne across the harbour.
