SHIPPING OFFERED
Very rare copy of the Mid-March 1960 edition of British Vogue with a Norman Parkinson cover photo of model Tania Mallett who later became an actress and famously appeared as Tilly Masterson in the 1964 Bond film 'Goldfinger'. She wears a pink Horrockses suit and Christian Dior hat against a backdrop of cotton mill chimneys in Blackburn Lancashire. This 168 page issue has a big 24 page 'Portrait of a County Lancashire' feature including an essay by A.J.P. Taylor and a fabulous fashion spread with Parkinson photos of Tania Mallet and Anne Larson at locations all over the county including the coast, towns, countryside and even a coal mine. There are also lots of adverts for Lancashire and Northern England fashion shops and textile manufacturers. So much has changed since then that it's now a time capsule of Lancashire as it was at the start of the Sixties and a wonderful and nostalgic find.
Other fashion spreads include hats and jewellery photographed by Claude Virgin with models including Australians Jennifer Hocking and Maggi Eckhardt, Young Idea with Brian Duffy photos of 'little dark dresses' and more hats with Marie-Lise Gres among the models and a spring wardrobe for 'Mrs Exeter' with Eric Stemp drawings. The Shop Hound section has early Duffy photos of Grace Coddington and Paulene Stone and the beauty pages have a full page colour shot of Isabella Albonico by Irving Penn.
The arts pages have a poignant tribute to the actress Kay Kendall who had tragically died in 1959 with a photo by Tony Armstrong-Jones, Elizabeth David visits French food markets, the Travel section has Holland and taking your car abroad, there's a page of exercises on thick matte pink paper, Vogue Knitting patterns, 2 pages of Frank Monaco photographs and much more.
The adverts include Christian Dior London with Maggi Eckhardt, Dorville with Jennifer Hocking, Jacqmar scarves, Vanity Fair lingerie, Jaeger, Orient Line cruises to Australia with Margo Smyly aka Mrs Exeter, Ford Zodiac, Wolseley 6-99 and Bond cars.
The magazine is complete, intact and in excellent vintage condition. Please examine all the photos carefully and contact me if you have any questions. Pick up from Kensington NSW 2033 in Sydney Eastern Suburbs.
I'm downsizing and selling a wide variety of items including vintage British, American and Australian magazines. Please check out my other ads while you're here to see more unique finds. Thanks for looking.
