A set of six balloon back chairs in unmodified, original condition. No chair has evidence of damage or repair. Ex Bathurst gold mine manager's residence - as purchased from the family homestead by myself in 2002. They had been stored, unused since the 19th Century. Complete with numbered drop in seats. Offered for sale is a quality Demilune table. It was made in Australia during the early 20th Century. The timber employed is an exotic species from Africa named "Imbuia". It is a heavy, hard timber that displays a rich, dark red colour. It is solid timber - not veneer. The "Linenfold" design is in the manner of the Flemish influenced 17th Century period "London Dark Oak". The quality of manufacture is exceptional. This is a fine example of a traditional two height, cantilever fronted, elevated bookcase. It stands 7'6" & is 4'2" in width. It was made in England circa 1865 of select mahogany. The design shows the French Napoleon III infuence of Fleur De Lis astrigal terminals & continental pilasters. The structure is sound with no rot or borer & it presents in well cared for, original condition. All locks operate perfectly & both keys are present.
