Experienced Private Tutor - $80/hr - Psych, English & MORE
ABOUT ME:
Hello! My name is Dr Sabrina Sghirripa. I am a cognitive neuroscientist by day, and tutor by night.
In 2017 I graduated with a Bachelor of Psychological Science (majoring in psychology and neuroscience, GPA 6.8/7). I was then awarded a First Class honours degree in Health and Medical Sciences (Physiology), followed by a PhD in medicine (2022). I have over 10 years of private tutoring experience, working mainly with Year 12 students in Psychology, English and Research Project, and undergraduate university students in Psychology.
I am friendly, down to earth, and take a light hearted approach to my teaching and mentoring. Working with me will leave you confident, motivated and knowing EXACTLY what you need to do to succeed.
SACE STUDENTS:
I graduated high school in 2014 with an ATAR of 99.15. My subjects were Psychology (A with merit: 19.6), Chemistry (A: 18.8), English Studies (A: 18.8), Maths Studies (A:19.2) and Research Project (A with merit: 9.9/10). I received the highest mark in my Year 12 cohort in English Studies, Research Project and Psychology. Although Iβve been out of school for some time now, I have kept up to date with the subject and curriculum changes in the senior SACE years (such as the 2022 Stage 2 Psych overhaul).
I cater for high school students on each end of the spectrum and those in between- whether you're chasing a high ATAR, or are struggling and need some extra help to achieve a desired grade. I am particularly experienced in working with high achieving students to ensure they meet their goals (e.g. aiming for ATARs above 95, entry into medicine/allied health, aiming for subject merits, etc).
I am renowned for my time management and study skills, and have plenty of advice to give on efficient study methods, exam prep and essay writing. I also enjoy acting as a mentor for my students in regards to tertiary study and employment pathways.
UNIVERSITY STUDENTS:
Throughout my undergraduate degree, I excelled in my psychology, health science and neuroscience courses. For example, I was the highest scoring student in my cohort for 'Doing Research in Psychology' (research and statistics), and 'Foundations of Health and Lifespan Development' in 2016. Entry into clinical psychology programs is extremely competitive, and undergraduate grades will play a role in selection for the programs. I can help you get the grades you need as an undergraduate psych student so you can fulfil your goals and enter your dream career.
Prior to completing my PhD and gaining full time employment, I spent 3.5 years working as a tutor, practical demonstrator and marker at multiple universities. I was consistently rated as an outstanding educator and received glowingly positive testamonials. I suppose this says it all:
"As a tutor, Sabrina was a godsend... I would want her to teach everyone's tutorials, she is that fantastic"
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!
SUBJECTS OFFERED:
Psychology (secondary and tertiary), biology (secondary), human biology/physiology/pathology/neuroscience (tertiary), Research Project, English (all SACE subjects), PE, Society and Culture.
Through my volunteering, I have attended training for, and have experience in working with students with special needs, and ESL students with refugee backgrounds.
I am willing to draft work from any subject. My drafts are extensive and I will ALWAYS have something to say! Rates are based on the length of the piece. Please note that I will not do your work for you!!!
** base rate is $80/hr and may increase dependent upon travel time. E.g. Meeting half way will typically incur a $5 flat fee. Due to COVID-19, I have tended towards online sessions via zoom, which do not incur any extra fees**
