Vintage 20th Cent. English Wimborne Pottery owl unglazed charger/plate
$45
SHIPPING OFFERED
Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century English-made unglazed pottery charger/plate, created by Wimborne Pottery (of Dorset) and dating from the 1960’s to 1970’s. Not much is recorded about this pottery producer, however they are known to have produced a range of art pottery vases and plates - often with stylised, minimal floral designs or animals (owls, owlets, hedgehogs, donkeys, etc).
The eye-catching design features a stylised brown adult owl, surrounded on both sides by bladed grass and perched on a cut branch. This has been cleverly created using sgraffito and a blue/brown tonal range.
In very good condition, no chips. The piece was carefully cleaned before sale – it was thoroughly dirty and dull with grease and dust so was most likely was hung in a kitchen for many, many years. Some occasional soft marking/spotting remains, and there is some cracking (but no losses) caused by the fluctuation in kitchen temperature over a long period of time. To protect the glaze, its spring hanger was left in place during the cleaning process and has not been removed.
Measures 24cm (diameter) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. Accurate as possible description at time of listing, however like any secondhand item is sold without guarantee or return so please ask any questions before purchase - as any sale is final.
