SHIPPING OFFERED
Offered for sale is this charming vintage 20th Century Australian BARCS star costume brooch, most likely dating from the 1960’s to 1970’s. Started in Newcastle in 1948 by Lilly Reid, BARCS today continues as a family-owned business producing quality costume jewellery. Rising to fashion prominence in the 1950’s and 1960’s, this popularity was recognised in 1975 with both Myer and David Jones adding BARCS to their permanent in-store ranges. In 2005 they were commissioned by Qantas to produce a necklace and earring set for cabin crew.
With a design that references Victorian brooches of the 19th Century, this attractive looking piece is nicely balanced by a central foil-backed cabochon paste stone with five matching smaller stones (set along the points of the star). Filling between the star-points are a series of foliate and rope-twist scrolls inset with graduating costume pearls and brilliant-cut paste stones. All points are highlighted with a trio of costume pearls.
Great for the vintage brooch collector or perfect for adding a bit of hipster-boho nanna chic to any outfit.
No losses or wear to the gilding (appears in NOS condition - or was rarely worn by previous owners). The central cabochon has some distressing to the foil backing that doesn’t detract - and in fact confirms (as well as adding to the boho style) its authenticity as a genuine vintage item and not modern reproduction.
Measures 4.6cm x 4.6cm approximately.
Please check the pictures as they form part of the item description.
