2 x Antique Stoneware Stout/Porter Bottles (Barrowfield) Glasgow
$130
SHIPPING OFFERED
This is a pair of ANTIQUE, stoneware (ironstone clay) stout or porter bottles, both with their corks securely in place and both finished with a vitreous cream salt glaze or Bristol glaze (using zinc-oxide feldspathic glaze). The bottles originated from 'Henry Kennedy & Sons Co - Barrowfield Potteries in the Camlachie district east of Glasgow near the Camlachie clay beds. (The makers 'OVAL MARK' can clearly be seen near the base of one of the bottles). Barrowfield Potteries ran from 1866 - 1929 but in the 1870s, stout, porter ales and beer were imported into the colony of Queensland from overseas, particularly Britain and I would date these bottles from around about that period. Both the bottles have fractures in them but are still remarkably solid and one is a clearly a lighter hue of beige than the other. Both bottles stand at a height of 22 cm and weigh around 650 grams whilst the lighter coloured bottle has a base width of 7.5 cm and the darker bottle's base width is 7 cm. Inspection available as is local pick up. FREE POSTAGE AVAILABLE. (PayPal, Bank deposit or Pay on pick up available). The price is for both bottles together.
