In the late 70s and through the 80s the professional nightclub market was RULED by the renowned Technics SL-1200MkII turntable, with any club of worth running two or three decks through a Citronic or similar mixer. Professional DeeJays mixed on “wheels of steel” for hours (not short brackets as seems to happen these days), and carrying music on USB sticks was still years off - the music came from milk crate after milk crate of vinyl pressings. But, as the fabulous big-haired 80s wore on change was coming… CDs with their claimed superiority were selling in bigger and bigger numbers, and it became obvious that DeeJays would need to also start using the new format.
Initially, the only choice was to use domestic players, a situation that was far from ideal. They were slow and clunky to cue, and in many instances finicky even after you hit play. Worse, there was no way to replicate the “hands on” manipulation that made skilled mixing and tight control of program so possible with the beloved SL1200MkII.
Then DENON came to the rescue. (Sorry Pioneer, Sorry Technics, Denon’s DN preceded your CDJ and SL-DZ models!). Around 1992 they released their DN-2000F, an absolute game changer. Two CD Players in one enclosure, with a separate control panel (the two connected via a data cable), rock solid performance, instant cueing, pitch control, big soft feel buttons, and superb audio performance. As we said, game changed!
Then, just a few years later Denon astounded again, with this, the BENCHMARK Denon DN2500F professional dual player. It did all the DN-2000F could do, better. And it did so much more. Like the DN-2000F, the DN-2500F is / has:
• 19” Rack mountable
• Playback begins instantly when play button pressed (Instant Start)
• Pitch is adjustable with a long travel slider, providing an analogue feel
• Pitch can be changed up / down temporarily using buttons (Pitch Bend)
• The point where music starts is searched for automatically when a track is selected (Cue to music)
• Seaching is possible down to 1/75 (0.013) seconds
Additionally, the DN-2500F introduced a whole pile more:
• Pitch control switchable between /- 4%, 8%, 16%
• A Sampler in inbuilt, allowing 8 seconds of stereo sampling per side. (Sampler)
• A Key control in addition to the pitch control, allowing changing of key independent of pitch (Key Control)
• Jog Shuttle Dial controls are fitted to assist cueing
• A voice reducer function is fitted to optionally reduce vocals on a recording
• A brake function is fitted to allow for the effect of gradual slowing of the playback speed before stopping. (Brake)
• A memory function is fitted for recalling disc ID data, cue point data etc.
• Direct search allows for accessing a specific point on a disc, or a specific index number via direct entry keypad.
• Fader inputs to allow start from mixers.
• Servo auto stop function for spindle motors.
Considered by many to be the best professional CD deck ever made this “low mileage” DN-2500F came up beautifully. It will be shipped with audio leads, data lead (non-original but 100% compatible), and a comprehensive user manual copy.
