Echium Candicans - Pride of Madeira seedlings
Produces large spikes of intense blue flowers from Spring to Summer. Ideal for coastal conditions. Thrives in sandy soils and Melbourne's scorching hot summers. A stunning architectural plant characterised by huge blue purple flower spikes in spring and summer. Incredibly hardy and a good choice for hot dry locations in full sun or shaded. Flowers attract nectar feeding birds, butterflies and beneficial insects. Typically do not flower until the second year but their symmetrical form ads excellent structure to the garden even when they are not in flower.
We have had plants flower with a variety different colours, including: soft cobalt blue, intense purple with pink stamens, and soft pinky blue.
An impressive show piece for the garden and definite conversation point. All echiums must be handled with gloves, as the coarse hairs can cause skin irritation. But that’s a small price for their flowers.
Selling for $5 per seedling or 5 for $20.
Pickup only Carrum Downs.
