Black Madeira (KK) is a variant that comes from Keith Karausky. His tree originally came from Jon Verdick of Encanto Farms.
Black Madeira KK is considered to be the best strains among all 3 variants of Black Madeira.
Black Madeira (UCD) came from USDA; that original UCD tree was donated to USDA by Todd Kennedy of California Rare Fruit Growers in 1988. UCD strains is believed to have higher level of FM virus and slower growth.
Black Madeira grows more slowly than other fig varieties and can be more difficult to root.
Hervey C recommends to graft BM onto other vigorous fig varieties.
This Black Madeira has been grafted onto a Violet de Bordeaux fig tree. You don't need to do anything more. Plant it in the ground or grow it in a larger pot.
