PLANT, TRIANGLE PALM, DYPSIS DECARYI, ADVANCED, $550
HEIGHT APPROX. 6 METRES
SUITED EQUALLY FOR INDOOR OR OUTDOOR
PERFECT HIGHLIGHT TREE FOR YOUR NEW OFFICE BLOCK ATRIUM / ENTRANCE
Let’s start with those head-turning fronds which are meticulously arranged and forming a triangular shape. They have a hint of bluish green, and grace a robust trunk that will grow up to 8 metres tall and 5 metres wide. Evergreen and drought-tolerant, your Triangle Palm will thrive in full sun and require low-to-moderate water once you get it established. Heads up: it’s a fast grower with a canopy that spans wide with giant, nearly round fronds. So keep that in mind when deciding where to plant it. Light your Triangle palm from down low and you’ll be amazed at how magnificent your garden will look at night.
PLANT IS WELL ADVANCED, SUN HARDENED AND IN PERFECT HEALTH.
I ALSO HAVE SIX TRIANGLE PALMS IN POTS ONE METRE HIGH AND TWO YEARS OLD FOR $60 EACH.
THIS IS A SERIOUS TRANSPLANT TASK IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE SUCCESSFUL. YOU WILL NEED AT LEAST A TILT TRAY TRUCK OR A TRUCK WITH A SUITABLE HIAB TO LIFT THIS OUT MY END AND THEN DROP IT BACK AT YOUR END.
WE HAVE A 5 TONNE EXCAVATOR AVAILABLE TO DIG IT OUT OF THE GROUND AND LIFT IT ONTO YOUR TRAILER. PLEASE REQUEST A QUOTE.
ALTERNATIVELY, YOU AND 2 MATES CAN DIG IT OUT IN A DAY OR SO.
THERE IS VERY GOOD ACCESS FOR YOU TO REMOVE THIS PALM FOR TRANSPLANT:-
REMOVE
DIG A TRENCH AROUND THE PALM PLANT
ONCE THE TRENCH IS DEEP ENOUGH, DIG UP AS LARGE A ROOT BALL AS YOU CAN MANAGE TO TRANSPORT. LOOSEN THE PLANT GENTLY WITH A CROWBAR AND OTHER DIGGING TOOLS UNTIL IT HAS TIPPED OVER. THEN PRY OUT AS MUCH OF THE ROOT BALL AND SOIL AS YOU CAN MANAGE, WRAP IN WATER-SATURATED HESSIAN OR SIMILAR AND REMOVE FROM THE HOLE.
RE-PLANT
DIG A HOLE TWICE AS WIDE BUT NO DEEPER THAN THE ROOT BALL. PLACE THE TRIANGLE PALM IN THE HOLE. THE TOP OF THE ROOT BALL SHOULD BE LEVEL WITH OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE THE SURROUNDING SOIL. BACK-FILL AROUND THE ROOT BALL GENTLY WITH NEW SOIL, PRESSING GENTLY TO MAKE SURE ALL AIR BUBBLES ARE REMOVED.
CARING FOR YOUR TRIANGLE PALM
• Light: These plants love partial shade or full sunshine exposure.
• Water: Water can be cupped and stored at the base of the leaves to be released during dry conditions. However, the plant will thrive best with a regularly maintained watering routine to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Ensure proper drainage to prevent root rot.
• Temperature and Humidity: Triangle Palms will thrive in warm and humid environments. Having said this, they can grow well with consistent temperatures between 18°C - 29°C with adequate humidity levels of around 40%.
• Soil: Use well-draining landscape mix. This helps prevent waterlogging and promotes healthy root growth. The Triangle Palm can also be planted directly into most types of garden soil, including sandy and clay composite soil. However, it is important to fertilise the soil before planting.
• Fertiliser: Feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser during the growing season. Follow the instructions on the fertiliser packaging for the correct dosage. Plants that are young to middle-aged usually require fertilising every 2-3 months or so. However, older plants require much less nutrients as growth naturally slows and requires less energy. In the wild, Triangle Palms have an average lifespan of around three decades.
• Pruning: Remove any dead or damaged leaves to maintain the plant's appearance. Trim back any brown or yellowed fronds at the base to keep its fan-like appearance. New shoots will only grow from the central trunk.
Luckily palms are one of the easiest plants to move because of their large and fibrous root ball as opposed to trees with long taproots. They are compact and may be lifted out like a ball.
