DESCRIPTION
- Long and narrow parrying / fighting shield
- hard & heavy
- carved handle
- carved kangaroos (6) and (1) emu in relief
- chipped patterning and stone-cutting marks (traditional tooling)
- hand-carved
- roughly made
- appears to be what it is: a rare and very old item
ARTIST : Unknown indigenous - from Central Australia
CONDITION: In fair-to-good condition for its age
- engraved animals clearly visible
- a split in front face toward middle of shield (12cm)
- a small crack (9 cm) on reverse side near one tip
PROVENANCE
- Private collection, Queensland
- Collected by John Jamison in Central Australia in the 1970s - who judged it to be “best ever collected” and “very old”.

- mulga or bloodwood (medium-brown colouration)
