MEMORABILIA:1980 VINTAGE NORFOLK ISLAND PRINTED LINEN/COTTON TEA-TOWEL
$10
SHIPPING OFFERED
Norfolk Island is an external territory of Australia located in the Pacific Ocean between New Zealand and New Caledonia, 1,412 kilometres directly east of Australia. Together with the neighbouring Phillip Island and Nepean Island, the three islands collectively form the Territory of Norfolk Island. Its capital is Kingston.
The first known settlers in Norfolk Island were East Polynesians but they had already departed when Great Britain settled it as part of its 1788 settlement of Australia. The island served as a convict penal settlement from 1788 until 1855. In 1856, permanent civilian residence on the island began when descendants of the Bounty mutineers were relocated from Pitcairn Island. In 1914 the UK handed Norfolk Island over to Australia to administer as an external territory.
Native to the island, the evergreen Norfolk Island pine is a symbol of the island and is featured on its flag.
This vintage tea towel is very interesting and attractive with its light blue background and featuring the Norfolk Island name, birds and animals, historical buildings, the ‘Bounty’ sailing ship, soldier, and the famous Norfolk pine silhouetted.
This vintage linen cotton tea towel measures approx. 47.5 cm x 74.5 cm and is in very good, unused condition, has not been laundered and has been stored folded in a cupboard. The tea towel has a few small marks due to aging that should come out with a soak and a gentle wash. The tea towel was 'Made In China' by NUCOLORVUE Design No 165. The tea-towel is of excellent quality and would make a great addition to any collection or as a framed wall-hanging.
Pick-up from Forest Lake or postage extra. Regular Postage will cost $2.50.
