$25
SHIPPING OFFERED
The Australian Army Apprentices School existed from 1948 to 1995 and was established at Balcombe in 1948.
The first intake of 45 youths commenced their three year apprenticeship training in 10 different trades. The school moved from Balcombe to Latchford Barracks at Bonegilla, near Wodonga, in 1982. During the life of the school at Balcombe, clerks and bandsmen were also trained.
Between the years 1951 to 1982, Balcombe witnessed the graduation of more than 5000 Army Apprentices at the completion of their training.
In 1995 the last Army Apprentices graduation parade was conducted at Bonegilla.
The badge design features a Cross which forms the spokes of the wheel and represents the Christian virtues and the development of character. The Torch of Learning represents that desire to go on with learning. The Crossed Swords reminds soldiers of the military qualities of Courage and Discipline and the importance of a high standard of Physical Fitness. The Wheel represents the trade and technical training carried out at the School, whilst the Crown expresses Loyalty to Queen and Country and Devotion to Duty.
This is a gold anodised Army Apprentices School hat badge in excellent unused condition measuring 47 mm in height with two secure and intact pins on the reverse with brass clutch grips.
Pick-up from Forest Lake or postage extra. [Standard Postage will cost $2.50].
