Una Winifred Atwell [1914 – 1983] was a Trinidadian pianist who enjoyed great popularity in Britain and Australia from the 1950s with a series of boogie-woogie and ragtime hits, selling over 20 million records. She was the first black person to have a number-one hit in the UK Singles Chart and is still the only female instrumentalist to do so.
This is the concert program produced for Winifred Atwell’s third concert tour c.1960. The 230 mm x 175 mm 12 – page staple bound paper booklet is produced in monochrome printed text and photographs. The cover features a black and white photograph of the jazz pianist Winifred Atwell and was designed and printed by Freelance Press, South Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
Winifred Atwell’s autograph was obtained at the same time as she was touring Queensland. The autograph was obtained in a separate autograph book and removed for this transaction.
The title page lists the promoter, Aztec Services [Kenn Brodziak Managing Director], Bobby Limb and his Show Band and Alwyn Leckie. The booklet contains articles about the performers and various advertisements.
The 60 year old booklet and autograph are in used condition with evidence of aging and handling.
Pick-up from Forest Lake or postage extra. Regular Postage will cost $2.50.
