A superb Royal Doulton Burslem 1920s ‘Blue Rose’ stoneware biscuit barrel or tea caddy in stunning cobalt blue and gold with a quality silver plated hinged lid, stand and frame. Decorated with gorgeous sprays of flow blue roses embellished with gold and sponged with gold, and signed underglaze on the base.
Royal Doulton, one of the most renowned English companies producing tableware and collectables, has a history dating back to 1815. The name Flow Blue is derived from a blue glaze that blurred or "flowed" during the firing process, giving the effect of blue on white watercolour, a technique commencing in the Staffordshire area of Britain c. 1820 which continued for about a 100 years.
Stamped underglaze to base with the ‘standard’ Royal Doulton mark: lion, crown and ‘D’ motif (four interlocking ‘D’ symbols), reintroduced in 1928 supplemented by a date number. The prominent ‘1’ signifies 1928. In excellent condition.
Measurements approx:
Barrel with lid: 18.5cm tall x 14cm diam.
Complete with stand: 21.5cm x 18cm diam.
A striking rare design in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.

Cherry Improved Patent size 0 butter churn, an accompanying exquisite rabbit butter stamp plus a pair of butter pats or paddles. Edward Cherry (1830 - 1910) arrived in Australia from England in 1855 and began manufacturing butter churns in 1858. In 1875 he opened a factory in Gisborne, Victoria which traded as E.
