Black Leather Le Corbusier LC4 Replica Chaise Lounge
$500
Charles-Édouard Jeanneret (1887 – 1965) known as Le Corbusier, was a Swiss-French architect, designer, painter, urban planner and writer. Born in Switzerland he acquired French citizenship in 1930. His furniture designs were characterised by clean lines, geometric shapes and use of new materials such as steel and leather. His most famous furniture includes the LC4 chaise longue, designed with his associate Charlotte Perriand.
It became one of the most influential furniture designs of the 20th century, with curves designed to mirror the body, and allow quick and easy inclination from a full resting to a sitting position. The adjustable leather seat base sits upon a polished 14-gauge stainless steel tubular frame, welded with seamless joins for beauty and durability, and set on a black iron base.
For the manufacture of his furniture, he turned to the German firm Gebrüder Thonet, which had begun making chairs with tubular steel, a material originally used for bicycles. The LC4 Chaise Longue (1927–28) was one of the first, and proudly showcased at the 1929 Paris Autumn Salon, receiving great acclaim and becoming a modernist icon. Nearly 100 years later, the LC4s available today are reproductions of the original.
This stunning Le Corbusier LC4 replica, with a chrome plated steel tubular frame set on a black iron base, and black leather covered cushion and pillow, is in excellent vintage condition with very minimal wear. Measures approx: 164cm long, 51cm wide, and variable height depending on set up. (Replicas currently charge $900 - $1,500 to order, often with additional transport costs and wait times.)
Also listed elsewhere. Pickup from Geelong, Vic. due to size. May also be possible to bring to Melbourne or some regional Vic. cities at petrol cost.
