MCM Milk Bark Glass Double Layer Paper Bag Vase VERY RARE
$80 Negotiable
SHIPPING OFFERED
A very rare European MCM milk Ingrid /bark glass two layer paper bag vase. This amazing vase has an inner mould formed clear bark glass layer, encased in white similarly textured glass and the two aspects fused together by technique unknown. It has then been tailed with melted black glass thread. Very rare, very unusual, possibly a blow moulded prototype or experimental one off. There appears to be a ground pontil mark on the base completely through the outer white layer, but no pontil mark visible on the completely intact clear inner layer. Unmarked, likely had a sticker.
Known to be European but hard to decide on origin. West German, Czech and Scandinavian glass was very inventive at this time. It has elements of German Ingrid Glashütte Bark Ware from the 1960s - 70s, the work of Czech designers Vaclav Horacek or Vladislav Urban or experimental Czech Exbor Glass at a similar time, or moulded glass by Josef Schott, Smalandshyttan, Sweden. Murano also did beautiful, very expensive work with melted glass threads. Such an intriguing and complex mixture of techniques but works beautifully.
Certainly very rare and unusually constructed, it measures: 20cm x 14cm x 7cm and quite heavy. In very good vintage condition the white outside layer is perfect. An inner upper corner of the clear glass layer appears to have a fissure possibly occurring during the fusing process, very hard to see and does not affect the integrity of the vase. Together solid, tactile and beautiful.
Also advertised elsewhere.
