Australorp are the traditional heritage Australian breed with one of the highest laying rates. They are ideal backyard layers with shiny black feathers with dark green sheen. Unlike modern hybrids Australorps lay long-term. I have been breeding Australorps on free-range with mobile coops for more than 15 years and I am happy to advise on rearing heritage layers.
