Rare Selmer Soloist Short Shank Alto E Mouthpiece
$2,000
This is a rare "E" tip opening Selmer Short Shank Soloist alto sax mouthpiece. It is probably from the late 50s and would have likely been packaged with a Selmer Mark VI. Most of these short shank Soloist pieces were either "C" or "C*", a few were "D" and very few were made as "E" or larger tip openings.
Based on the information I have, the Selmer spec for an "E" is 2.01mm (.079") with a 20 to 21mm lay. This piece measures 2.04mm (.081") and has a lay of just over 20mm. In other words it is very accurate to the spec. In fact, much better than I would expect of a Selmer piece from the 50s.
This piece is in extremely good condition for a 70 year old piece. There is no obvious damage, or teeth grooves or cracks - just the usual wear and tear from handling and use. In other words, there are very small scratches and a substantial amount of the wax gelding in the scroll work and branding lettering has worn off from handling..
As far as I can tell, this piece has not been modified in any way. Please review photos.
