1985 Honda VT250F Rat Bike
$1,995 Negotiable
For sale is my 1985 Honda VT250F Rat Bike. This is the last round tube frame model before Honda went to a square tube frame. I bought this bike about 10 years ago as it had a low KM engine, but was in pretty bad shape. My intention was to make it into a Rat Bike (matt black look). The bike was completely rebuilt from the ground up in 2016. The frame was stripped and resprayed; Rear swingarm bushes checked and regreased; Comstar wheels cleaned up and fitted with new Pirelli tyres; rear shock checked; front forks rebuilt with new seals & oil; All panels plastic welded and resprayed in matt black; front brake caliper rebuilt and new braided line fitted; Carbs rebuilt and balanced; Radiator and cooling system checked over. I purchased many bits and pieces online to get the bike presentable and rideable. The main picture of the bike is shortly after the rebuild. I put the bike onto Victorian Club Registration about 8 years ago and it was my regular ride for about 5 years. It was brought over from the mainland before COVID and has been sitting under a tarp ever since.
Mechanically, the Bike is in original condition and has many hard to find original parts like a complete standard exhaust, centre stand, spotless tank (inside), mint carbs, excellent seat and more. The frame is in originally condition and nothing was cut off it when making it into a Rat Bike. The engine has about 32,000km on the clock and was in good working order before being stored.
I have all the manuals in electronic form and plenty of other good information about the bike. Following is a quick overview.
250cc DOHC 8-valve liquid cooled V-twin engine (35HP @ 11,500rpm).
Hydraulic Clutch & 6-speed gearbox
Dual piston inboard ventilated front disc brake
Aluminium Comstar wheels
Air-assist front forks
Air-assist single shock rear suspension
Low seat height (780mm)
Low weight (149kg dry)

The Bad News. Well, after sitting for a long time, the old girl wasn’t too happy to be brought back to life. As the bike sat idle for a long time I expected the carbs would be average so I removed them and then cleaned and completely rebuilt. While the carbs were off the engine I did a cold compression test which showed 120PSI for the front cylinder and 130PSI for the rear. Not great, but acceptable after a long hibernation. The bike starts and runs; doesn’t blow any smoke, but will sometimes drop the rear cylinder under load. I think this might be a bad coil or an electrical issue of some sort; If the bike doesn't sell, then I'll pull it down and check the electrics. She’s also developed a little oil leak (only when running) around the drive shaft which will more than likely be a worn/dry seal. I have included a recent pic of the bike as she is looking a little tired and some plastic damage occurred during it being shipped to Tassie.
I am hoping to get what I’m asking for the bike, but I am open to negotiation. VJMC members automatically qualify for a ‘club’ discount.
I have included a link to video of me riding the bike years ago. YT Links should work, but if not ‘cut and paste’ them into your browser.

I am chasing my white 1982 Honda z50jz which was stolen on mothers day last year (9/5/21) from my house in Invermay. Lots of other things were taken but this bike is really important to me. It’s rego was B362J and engine number is ABO2E5050471. It was my pride and joy and it has been a really rough time for me since it was taken. It was being offered for sale on Gumtree by someone called Selena in December 2021 (see the pictures of the ad).
